Two Foreign Nationals Arrested in Hyderabad Drug Trafficking Operation

Hyderabad, March 5: The Hyderabad City Police, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), conducted a joint operation that led to the arrest of a foreign drug dealer and his accomplice. The operation resulted in the seizure of MDMA.

Acting on reliable information, the police and H-NEW arrested Yemeni national Al-Akar Abdurabu Mohammad Abdurabu and his assistant, Palestinian Hassan W.A. Hashem, from within the Rajendra Nagar police station area.

Authorities confiscated 150 grams of MDMA, a knife, and four mobile phones, valued at approximately ₹2.5 million. They have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.

The 37-year-old Abdurabu resided in the Tolichowki area of Hyderabad and had previously been involved in six cases registered under the NDPS Act at various police stations in the city. He was arrested in connection with these cases between 2019 and 2022 and was wanted in two additional cases registered in 2023 and 2026. His accomplice, 28-year-old Hashem, is a content creator for the game Ludo and lived in Bengaluru. He had also been implicated in a case registered in 2022 under the NDPS Act and the Foreigners Act in Yelahanka New Town, Bengaluru.

Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Srinivas informed the media that Abdurabu, who was a drug user, became a dealer. He purchased MDMA and cocaine at lower prices from a fugitive Nigerian supplier by placing orders via WhatsApp and transferring payments online. Hashem assisted Abdurabu in acquiring drugs and selling them at higher prices to customers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. They sometimes used a dead-drop method for distribution, while at other times, they delivered directly to known customers to maintain their lavish lifestyles. On several occasions, Abdurabu sent drugs to Hyderabad dealers via private travel buses.

The police investigation revealed that Abdurabu arrived in India on a tourist visa in 2008 and spent two months in Pune. He returned in 2009 on a student visa, enrolling in BCA at Bharat College in Pune, but dropped out. In 2011, he moved to Hyderabad and enrolled at Sikkim Manipal University, which he also left.

Abdurabu returned to Yemen in 2012 and re-entered India on a student visa in August 2015, landing at RGIA Hyderabad. His student visa expired on September 4, 2015, and was later extended until December 31, 2016. His passport expired on April 16, 2020. He then enrolled in a B.Tech (Computer Science) program at JNTU, Hyderabad, but left in his second year, subsequently receiving training in various technology applications at a local institute.

He came into contact with a drug supplier in Delhi, known as Chidi, through Palestinian national Said Ali Mohammad Al Kafri, who was arrested by H-NEW in 2024. Abdurabu sheltered Chidi in his Hyderabad room for nearly eight months until Chidi was apprehended by the Hyderabad police.

Motivated by a desire for a lavish lifestyle and easy money, Abdurabu became a dealer. He was arrested multiple times by the Excise Station in Amirpet and MG Road police in Bengaluru for NDPS-related offenses and was remanded to judicial custody on various occasions. It was during one of these periods that he connected with Hashem, and together they engaged in drug trafficking activities.
