Four Arrested After Viral Video Shows Cash Stash in Tripura

Agartala, May 19: In a significant development in Tripura’s Dhalai district, authorities have arrested two more suspects following the circulation of a viral video showcasing a woman flaunting a substantial amount of cash in her home. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to four, including three security personnel who have been suspended.

According to police officials, the arrested individuals include two women, a police officer, and a health department employee. The suspects were presented in a local court, where they were remanded to police custody for further questioning.

The investigation revealed that a soldier from the Tripura State Rifles and two police officers, including a female constable, have been suspended in connection with the case. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accused are part of a large, organized illegal investment racket that has defrauded traders and individuals out of millions by promising high returns.

When investors demanded their money back, the suspects resorted to intimidation tactics, including threats to their lives. Reports indicate that this syndicate is involved in serious financial crimes and has been operating with the influence of some of its members. There are concerns that the funds acquired through fraud may have been funneled into illegal activities.

Police constable Rupak Saha (30) has also filed a complaint against the suspects regarding their clandestine financial operations. However, authorities have yet to recover any cash from the home of the woman, who is the wife of a police constable. Investigators suspect that a larger organized network is at play.

Additionally, police believe that an interstate gang may be involved, linked to illegal financial transactions and drug trafficking. The video, which went viral on social media, has caused a sensation throughout the state, showing bundles of 100, 500, and 2000 rupee notes, estimated to be worth millions.

Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that he directed relevant officials to take action after viewing the video on social media. Police Director General Anurag expressed his displeasure over the incident and instructed senior officials to respond promptly and take strict measures.

So far, approximately 15 individuals have been detained for questioning in this case. Authorities are now working to trace the origins of the money and determine whether it is linked to fraud or drug trafficking.
