Three Bangladeshi Infiltrators Arrested While Attempting to Return from India

Kolkata, May 19 — West Bengal Police arrested three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally cross the international border near the Dhantala area in Nadia district late Saturday night. The arrested individuals include two men and a woman who had earlier infiltrated India via the Bangladesh border.

According to police sources, the individuals have been identified as Rupa Begum, Muhammad Alam, and Manira Sheikh — all residents of the Jhenaidah region of Bangladesh. The trio had reportedly entered India around four months ago with the help of a local agent, who not only facilitated their illegal entry but also provided them with forged Indian identification documents.

Once inside India, they moved to other states and engaged in odd jobs to sustain themselves. However, with increasing crackdowns on illegal Bangladeshi migrants across several states in recent months, they decided to return to Bangladesh using the same border route near Dhantala through which they had originally entered.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the police apprehended them as they tried to cross the border back into Bangladesh. A local court later remanded them to police custody for further investigation.

A senior officer from Nadia district police confirmed that several arrests of illegal Bangladeshi migrants have taken place in villages along the border recently. “Most of the recent arrests are of those who had been living in India for some time and are now attempting to return home amid fear of being caught,” the officer said.

Authorities believe the arrests mark a significant step in tightening border security. Efforts are now underway to track down the local agent who aided these infiltrators in entering and residing illegally in India.
