
Patna, May 19: Bihar’s Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced on Tuesday that the state is rapidly advancing in civil aviation. The goal is to increase air connectivity tenfold over the next five years.
He stated that the state government is preparing a roadmap to enhance air connectivity across all districts. The Civil Aviation Department is working on a comprehensive plan for the modernization of airports, security, and inclusive development. Efforts are underway to establish Bihar as a regional aviation hub in Eastern India.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Chaudhary held a meeting with senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, and the Civil Aviation Department of Bihar to discuss various points.
Samir Kumar Sinha, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, provided suggestions regarding the expansion of Patna Airport’s runway and capacity. He also discussed plans to upgrade Darbhanga Airport to an international status, the Ajgaibinath Dham Greenfield Airport project, the construction of a permanent civil enclave at Purnia Airport, and the development of Muzaffarpur-Valmikinagar, Saharsa, and Birpur airports. The meeting also covered the revised UDAN scheme prioritizing Bihar and the inclusion of additional airports in the scheme, along with the enhancement of Forbesganj Airport and upgrading state airstrips to technical standards.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for swift action on the runway expansion and capacity enhancement at Patna Airport, assuring full support from the state government. The designation of Darbhanga Airport as an international airport is expected to increase international passenger potential.
He reiterated the vision of developing Bihar as a leading civil aviation center, ensuring safe, seamless, and sustainable connectivity. The increase in air connectivity is anticipated to significantly boost tourism and economic activities, creating new job opportunities in the state.
