DRDO Completes Successful Development Trials of Precision Guided Missile V3

New Delhi, May 19: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the final development trials of the Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 at the DRDO test range near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. These trials utilized an integrated Ground Control System (GCS) for the operation and control of the ULPGM weapon system. The GCS is equipped with advanced technologies that automate readiness and launch operations.

DRDO has partnered with two production agencies—Bharat Dynamics Limited and Adani Defence Systems and Technologies, both based in Hyderabad—for the development and production of these missiles. For the current trials, the system was integrated into a UAV developed by NewSpace Research and Technologies in Bengaluru.

The ULPGM missile was developed in collaboration with various DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad, the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh, and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) in Pune, with the Hyderabad-based Building Research Centre serving as the nodal laboratory.

The production of this missile has been entirely carried out through the Indian defense ecosystem, involving a significant number of small and medium enterprises and other industries. The trials have confirmed a fully developed domestic supply chain, which is equipped for immediate large-scale production.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, public sector undertakings, defense and production partners, and the industry for the successful development trials of ULPGM-V3 in air-to-ground mode for anti-tank roles, as well as in air-to-air mode for drones, helicopters, and other aerial targets. He described this achievement as a strategic milestone towards self-reliance in the defense sector.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO, extended his congratulations to all teams involved in this commendable achievement.
