New Delhi, April 11: The Delhi Police have made significant strides in combating vehicle thefts by dismantling an interstate auto-lifting gang. Officers from the Burari police station arrested two active members of the gang, recovering six stolen motorcycles and parts of another bike. This operation has led to the resolution of seven vehicle theft cases.
The case stems from an e-FIR filed on March 28. The complainant, Manoj Kumar, 32, a resident of Harit Vihar in Burari, reported that his Bajaj Duke motorcycle was stolen from outside his home on the night of March 26/27.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the Delhi Police formed a special team led by IPS officer Pooja Yadav. The team meticulously reviewed footage from over 200 CCTV cameras, gathered intelligence, and maintained constant surveillance. On April 1, 2026, police received a tip-off about a stolen motorcycle parked near Shahid Nagar Metro Station. Acting on this information, they set a trap and apprehended two young men, Shahzad (22) and Sahil (19), at the scene.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had been involved in vehicle thefts for the past five to six years. Shahzad, the gang leader, targeted high-end sports bikes, using a master key to steal them. The stolen motorcycles were then parked at Shahid Nagar Metro Station in Ghaziabad before being sold to a local receiver for 20,000 to 25,000 rupees. Police have also recovered five additional stolen motorcycles based on the suspects’ disclosures.
Both arrested individuals have a criminal history. Shahzad is a school dropout with a history of drug addiction and has been involved in four previous vehicle theft cases. Similarly, Sahil is also a school dropout struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
Other gang members and the individual purchasing the stolen goods remain at large. Police are actively conducting raids to apprehend them. This operation has uncovered vehicle theft cases across several police jurisdictions, including Burari, Timarpur, Anand Vihar, Patparganj Industrial Area, and Paharganj.
