Kolkata, May 19: Bulldozer operations have commenced in Nandigram, West Bengal. Under the directive of the Kolkata High Court, illegal constructions on government land in the Jalpaiguri area have been demolished. The operation was conducted in the presence of police and administrative officials, leading to the destruction of several unauthorized homes.

Since the change in government following the last assembly elections, there has been a renewed emphasis on development projects in West Bengal. The ‘Bulldozer Policy’ initiated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sparked discussions across the state. Now, its tangible impact is visible in Nandigram.

Mohammad Tanveer Alam, the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Itamgarh Irrigation Sub-Division, stated that after receiving the court’s order, the local police assisted in reclaiming the encroached land belonging to the irrigation department. He mentioned that the process of removing encroachments from other government lands will also begin soon.

This action is considered a significant step towards eliminating illegal occupations on government property. The administration has indicated that strict measures are being enforced against illegal constructions throughout the Nandigram area. Local residents have reported that some individuals have occupied government land for an extended period, hindering development efforts.

Following the change in the West Bengal government, several public interest decisions are being implemented. The initiative to reclaim government land by removing illegal encroachments is set to be rolled out across the state. Officials clarified that this action is merely in compliance with the court’s order and is being executed according to the law. The bulldozer operations in this region of Nandigram have sparked considerable local discussion.

The administration has asserted that any form of illegal occupation on government land will not be tolerated in the future. A police force was deployed to maintain law and order throughout the process.
