New Delhi, April 23: Authorities revealed new details on Thursday following the arrest of a suspect in the sexual assault and murder of a 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer.
The Delhi Police apprehended Rahul Meena, who is accused of killing the IRS officer’s daughter in the Amar Colony area of the national capital.
Initial reports indicate that the victim was studying in her room when the suspect broke in. When she questioned how he entered the house, he claimed that her mother had invited him in.
Officials stated that the suspect demanded money from the victim, stating he needed cash urgently. When she refused, an argument ensued.
As the victim began to scream, the suspect threatened her into silence. In a fit of rage, he repeatedly struck her face with a lamp.
Investigators reported that the attack left multiple bruises on her face and body. After the victim lost consciousness from head injuries, the suspect allegedly raped her. He then dragged her body to another room where lockers were located. Authorities revealed that he used the victim’s finger to unlock the first locker, which operated on a fingerprint system.
To open the second locker, he reportedly used a screwdriver.
After gathering jewelry and cash, he placed the valuables into a bag.
The police noted that Meena had bloodstains on his pants, prompting him to change into the victim’s brother’s pants before fleeing towards the railway station.
CCTV footage captured him entering the colony around 6:30 AM, and approximately nine minutes later, he was seen entering the house. About an hour later, around 7:20 AM, he was recorded leaving the residence.
According to police sources, the suspect was apprehended thanks to three crucial digital clues: a stolen mobile phone, usage of hotel Wi-Fi, and Instagram chats. These leads helped investigators track down Rahul Meena, who had fled the scene.
In response to the incident, multiple police teams were formed, and nearby CCTV footage was meticulously examined.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was not using his personal mobile phone. Instead, he had stolen a handset during a previous harassment incident in Alwar and strategically used it to evade law enforcement.
Further investigation uncovered that he checked into a hotel in Dwarka, where he accessed the internet via the hotel’s Wi-Fi network.
Police officials reported that during this time, Rahul maintained contact with a relative living in Gurugram through Instagram.
By analyzing Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) and employing digital surveillance techniques, police successfully located him. Additional information was gathered after questioning the relative.
Investigators concluded that Rahul Meena raped the IRS officer’s daughter and subsequently strangled her with a phone charger. He then changed his clothes and allegedly fled with approximately 250,000 rupees worth of stolen items.
This tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the officer’s residence in the Kailash Hills area of southeastern Delhi.
Based on technical evidence and CCTV footage, the suspect was tracked down and ultimately arrested at a hotel in Dwarka, where he had been hiding.
