New Delhi, May 19: A significant fire incident occurred in the evidence room of the New Ashok Nagar police station on Tuesday, amid a rising trend of fire-related incidents in the capital. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kuldeep Kumar, representing the Kondli assembly constituency, has leveled serious accusations against the BJP government and the fire department.
Kumar claimed that despite a fire station being located just a stone’s throw away from the police station, fire department vehicles took nearly an hour to arrive at the scene. As a result, the evidence room was completely reduced to ashes.
Upon arriving at the site, Kumar assessed the situation and noted that the fire had been raging for quite some time, with smoke engulfing the entire premises. According to him, there were no fire trucks on-site for nearly an hour to combat the blaze. Eventually, fire brigade vehicles arrived and began extinguishing the fire, but significant damage had already occurred.
He pointed out that not only the evidence room but also a small cabin fell victim to the flames. The most alarming aspect was the delay in response from the fire department, especially given the proximity of the fire station.
Kumar accused the BJP’s “four-engine government” of failing to effectively manage Delhi’s fire department. He referenced recent fire tragedies in Palam and Vivek Vihar, which resulted in multiple fatalities, highlighting the department’s negligence in those incidents as well. He emphasized that had the fire department arrived promptly, many lives could have been saved.
The MLA urged the Delhi government to urgently improve the fire department’s preparedness and response times, especially considering the extreme heat of the season. He warned that if it takes an hour for fire trucks to reach a police station, the situation could be even more dire in densely populated areas.
