Lucknow, May 19: The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the completion of statues of national leaders and prominent figures by August 15. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh issued these instructions during an event held on International Museum Day. He urged officials from the culture department to expedite the statue construction process and provide detailed progress reports.
Following the event at the Uttar Pradesh State Museum Directorate, Singh emphasized the need for an annual report on the statues constructed and approved since 2022-23. He also requested that office orders related to all ongoing statues be issued within a week.
Singh inquired about the number of statues completed so far and the districts that have submitted proposals for their installation. The meeting revealed that two 12.5-foot tall equestrian statues of Maharana Pratap and a similar statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel have been completed, while the statue of Prithviraj Chauhan is still under construction.
During the event, the tourism minister inaugurated the Western Sculpture Gallery in the museum and released the Archaeological Journal-2026. He stated that the rare artifacts preserved in museums symbolize the country’s rich culture and historical heritage, which must be safeguarded and passed on to future generations.
Jaiveer Singh remarked that museums are not merely centers for preserving old objects but are powerful mediums for connecting the new generation with Indian civilization and cultural heritage. In today’s world, it is essential to link youth with their roots and cultural legacy.
He announced that free entry to museums will be provided during holidays to encourage more people to engage with their culture and history. He also mentioned the ‘Visit My State’ campaign and honored students who won various competitions.
The event featured renowned artist Sangeeta Gupta, who shared insights about the exhibition ‘AdiYogi Shiv: A Journey in Cosmic Indigo,’ highlighting the deep connection between indigo and Indian history, particularly during Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom movement. Additional Director of Culture, Srishti Dhawan, noted that approximately 85,000 students have visited the state museum this year, indicating a growing interest among youth in cultural heritage and museums. She mentioned ongoing efforts to make museums centers for educational and creative activities. Certificates and awards were also presented to winners of essay, quiz, and canvas painting competitions organized jointly by the State Museum and the Folk Art Museum in Lucknow.
