PM Modi Departs Norway for Italy, Emphasizes Strengthening Trade Links with Nordic Nations

Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed from Norway to Italy as part of the final leg of his foreign tour. Before leaving Norway, he emphasized the need to deepen trade and investment links with Nordic countries.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi stated, “In recent years, India and the Nordic countries have made significant progress. Trade relations have strengthened, and investment links have deepened. One of the key outcomes of today’s India-Nordic Summit is our decision to expand our relationship into green technology and innovation strategic partnerships. This will connect innovation with scale and talent, while also advancing our shared commitment to sustainability, reliable technology, and a better future for humanity.”

After completing his visit to Norway, PM Modi wrote on ‘X’, “My fruitful visit to Norway has concluded. I had a productive discussion with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and participated in the India-Nordic Summit, where essential decisions were made to deepen cooperation across various sectors. I thank the people of Norway, PM Støre, and the Norwegian government for their warmth and friendship.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister mentioned in another post, “India will continue to work with Nordic countries on these fronts – increasing trade and investment, sustainable growth, more innovation, climate action, and Arctic cooperation.”

Earlier, PM Modi attended the third India-Nordic Summit. He expressed his happiness about participating in the summit and thanked the President for hosting it. He welcomed all Nordic leaders, stating, “Our shared commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and multilateralism makes us natural partners. Eight years ago, we established this format to energize and accelerate our relations with Nordic countries.”

He added, “I am pleased that we have made significant progress in our relations over the past few years. Our bilateral trade has quadrupled in the last decade. Nordic investment funds are also becoming crucial partners in India’s rapid growth. There has been nearly a 200% increase in investments from Nordic countries to India over the past decade. The rapidly growing trade and investment have contributed to India’s growth story and played a very positive role in the Nordic economies, creating thousands of new jobs. We have recently initiated several important measures to take our relations to the next level on this strong foundation.”
