New Delhi, March 14: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested a Nigerian national in connection with a narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) case. The arrest took place on Saturday following a tip-off.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Indora stated that a team from the Crime Branch apprehended the suspect in the Guru Nanak Nagar area of Tilak Nagar. The accused is originally from Anambra State in Nigeria and was reportedly active as a drug supplier in the Tilak Nagar, Dwarka, and Najafgarh regions.
The individual had been declared a ‘proclaimed offender’ under Section 21 of the NDPS Act on October 27, 2021. This case was registered at the Industrial Area Police Station in Chandigarh.
The Crime Branch acted on intelligence regarding the accused’s possible meeting with an associate in Tilak Nagar. Head Constable Sandeep Kadiya received information that the African national might be in the area, prompting the team to set up a blockade.
According to reports, the police team, dressed in plain clothes, positioned themselves near the Tilak Nagar Metro Station. Upon spotting the police, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he arrived in India on a tourist visa in February 2015. He initially operated a clothing business in Tilak Nagar from 2015 to 2019 but had to shut it down due to financial losses. Subsequently, he ventured into selling African cuisine before becoming involved in drug trafficking. He reportedly sourced drugs from another African national in West Delhi and sold them in Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
This is not the first time the accused has faced legal troubles. He was previously arrested in March 2019 in Bhoranj, Himachal Pradesh, and released from jail in June 2020. After being arrested again in 2021 in Chandigarh, he was released in March 2024, only to resume illegal activities. Due to his continuous evasion of court proceedings, he was declared a ‘proclaimed offender.’
