Beirut, May 17: The Indian Army’s battalion, INDBATT XXVI, deployed under the United Nations mission in Lebanon, has been honored for its exceptional service. This peacekeeping unit is stationed in southern Lebanon.
India’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Noor Rahman Sheikh, showcased the battalion’s recognition on social media platforms. He participated in the Medal Day parade for INDBATT XXVI held in southern Lebanon and extended heartfelt congratulations to the 4 Grenadiers Infantry Battalion Group, led by Colonel N. Gladson.
The battalion is stationed in southern Lebanon, an area frequently targeted during Israeli attacks. During its year-long deployment in a highly challenging and hostile environment, the battalion achieved a historic milestone by receiving a commendation from the head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Force Commander for the second time.
This honor was presented by Sector East Commander, Antonio R. Bernal Martin, in recognition of the battalion’s extraordinary professional capabilities, excellent operational skills, and unwavering dedication to the mission.
The primary responsibilities of INDBATT XXVI (Madras Regiment) include preventing conflict, patrolling, and providing medical and humanitarian assistance to the local population. The battalion also includes a ‘Female Engagement Team’ (FET).
Tensions remain high in the region due to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Although Indian soldiers are not directly involved, they perform their duties while maintaining vigilance from bunkers and armored vehicles. Last year, the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture recognized them with a commendation for providing excellent veterinary assistance and life-saving facilities to the farming community.
