Amit Shah Highlights the Importance of Design at NIDs Innovation Center Inauguration

Gandhinagar, May 17: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Innovation and Incubation Center’ at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Gandhinagar on Sunday. He announced the opening of the incubation and innovation center at the NID campus.

Amit Shah emphasized that NID is an institution that connects creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He noted that the objectives of NID were thoughtfully established at its inception.

Founded in 1961 in Ahmedabad, NID plays a crucial role in presenting designs effectively. Shah remarked that design, traditionally viewed as an art form, organizes utility within a space, making it more functional and appealing. He pondered why NID was established in Gujarat, a region often perceived as more business-oriented than artistic. He suggested that the aim was to foster the inherent design sensibilities present in individuals.

He added that one of NID’s goals is to provide a platform for those with a passion for design. Thus, its establishment in Gujarat was significant.

Shah highlighted the vital role of design across various sectors, including the development of industrial parks and technological projects. He stressed the need for advancements in high-tech design fields, such as semiconductor and chip manufacturing. NID should guide young talents interested in design by providing them with the right direction and opportunities.

He reiterated that design is both a discipline and an art. NID was founded to offer a platform for individuals’ design talents and to cultivate a robust design culture.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal also expressed that having NID in Gandhinagar is highly appropriate. He noted that entrepreneurship is deeply rooted in Gujarat’s culture, with its people constantly seeking new opportunities and adopting innovative approaches, including design thinking.

Goyal remarked that innovation and design thinking are not new concepts for India. However, historical setbacks, including colonial rule, have weakened the original mindset over time. He emphasized that design thinking involves understanding the depth of every aspect and implementing programs systematically. Experts in the field possess profound knowledge of design, which fundamentally means creating something new with logic and clarity.

He concluded by stating that the entrepreneurial spirit in India is evident today, as youth are not just chasing jobs but are also creating their ventures with innovation and new ideas. In this journey, innovation and design thinking play a crucial role.
