Dharamshala, May 17: In the 61st match of IPL 2026, Punjab Kings (PBKS) face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first.
The Punjab Kings made two changes to their playing XI for this match. Lockie Ferguson and Harpreet Brar have been included in the final eleven. After winning the toss, Iyer stated, “I’m not going by statistics. We’ve seen how quickly games can end. If we perform well in batting and bowling, the toss doesn’t matter. I wasn’t aware that this is my 100th match as captain, but I’ll be happy if we win. We are bowling well, but we need to enjoy the pressure. Brar and Lockie are back in the playing eleven.”
RCB is without their regular captain Rajat Patidar for this match. Suyash is playing in his place, while Romario Shepherd returns instead of Jacob Duffy. After losing the toss, captain Jitesh said, “We prefer to bowl first, but the wicket is good, and we should perform well for 40 overs. Rajat is recovering quickly, and we hope to see him play in Hyderabad. Every game is crucial; this win could change a lot for us and other teams. Suyash has replaced Rajat, and Romario has come in for Duffy.”
The Punjab Kings have faced five consecutive losses in their last matches. To reach the playoffs, PBKS must secure a win in this game. Apart from Prabhsimran and Shreyas Iyer, the other batsmen have struggled in recent matches. However, the biggest concern for the team has been their bowling. In their last match against Mumbai Indians, PBKS bowlers failed to defend a target of 201 runs. Marco Jansen and Javier Bartlett have been expensive, while Arshdeep Singh has shown inconsistency in his performance.
On the other hand, RCB is just one win away from securing a playoff spot. In their last match, the team defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets. Virat Kohli has been in excellent form, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off just 60 balls against KKR, leading the team to victory. Devdutt Padikkal has also shown good form. In bowling, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been outstanding in IPL 2026, taking 22 wickets this season.
RCB’s playing XI: Jacob Bethel, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Venkatesh Iyer, Jitesh Sharma (Wicketkeeper/Captain), Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Suyash Sharma.
PBKS’s playing XI: Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh (Wicketkeeper), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Suryansh Shedge, Shashank Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai, Harpreet Brar, Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
