S. Jaishankar Extends Constitution Day Greetings to Norways Foreign Minister

New Delhi, May 17: Norway is celebrating its 212th Constitution Day on Sunday. India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has conveyed his best wishes to his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, on this historic occasion.

Through a message on the social media platform X, he expressed his congratulations for the special day. He shared a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, stating, “Warm wishes to Espen Barth Eide, the Norwegian government, and its people on Constitution Day. We look forward to deepening our multifaceted relations.”

Currently, Prime Minister Modi is on a five-nation tour in Europe and is set to arrive in Norway on Monday, May 18. Jaishankar expressed enthusiasm regarding this visit. Modi’s trip is an official one at the invitation of Prime Minister Støre, aimed at bilateral talks and participation in the third India-Nordic Summit scheduled for May 19.

This will be Modi’s first visit to Norway, marking the first time in 43 years that an Indian Prime Minister has visited the country. He will also meet with King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway.

Modi and Støre will jointly address the India-Norway Business and Research Summit, focusing on enhancing trade, technology, and investment, as well as advancing the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

The third India-Nordic Summit will take place in Oslo on May 19, with participation from the Prime Ministers of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden alongside Modi.

The Nordic countries are significant partners for India in areas such as technology, innovation, sustainable development, renewable energy, and digitization.

Bilateral trade in goods and services between India and the Nordic countries has reached nearly $90 billion, with India’s exports and imports both around $9.5 billion.
