New Delhi, May 17: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is taking significant steps to decrease passenger reliance on private vehicles. To achieve this, the Metro has decided to launch additional train trips. Previously, only six extra trips were operational; this number has now been increased to 24, ensuring that passengers can reach their destinations without hassle.
DMRC emphasizes that they are closely monitoring the situation to guarantee a smooth travel experience for all passengers. In anticipation of the challenges that may arise from this increase in service, DMRC has developed a comprehensive plan that is already being implemented. With the introduction of extra trips, a rise in passenger numbers is expected. Consequently, DMRC has also decided to enhance security personnel presence and establish more security counters to facilitate ticket purchasing.
Additionally, more baggage scanners will be activated to ensure that passengers face no difficulties during peak hours. DMRC is committed to ensuring that passengers can reach their destinations without any issues. The extensive Delhi Metro network provides crucial mobility by connecting major railway stations, interstate bus terminals, airport terminals, the Nammo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System, Noida Metro, and Rapid Metro in Gurugram, offering seamless intermodal connectivity.
Furthermore, DMRC is focusing on providing safe, reliable, and fast connectivity to commercial marketplaces, government ministries, administrative centers, corporate offices, educational institutions, and cultural destinations.
A robust last-mile ecosystem has been established across 160 metro stations, serving one lakh passengers through e-autos, e-rickshaws, bike taxis, cab aggregators, and bicycle rentals. The DMRC Sarthi app facilitates smart door-to-door integrated travel planning, ensuring reduced reliance on private vehicles.
In addition, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) operates 1,500 buses to provide last-mile services. Currently, parking facilities are available at 126 metro stations, allowing passengers to park their vehicles conveniently.
To further minimize reliance on ticket counters, DMRC has launched various digital platforms for ticket booking, including WhatsApp ticketing, the National Mobility Card, and the Open Network for Digital Commerce.
Moreover, the DMRC Sarthi app now serves as a fully integrated travel platform, enabling passengers to book metro tickets, auto-rickshaws, bike taxis, and smart door-to-door services, ensuring first-mile, last-mile, and metro connectivity are all managed through a single transaction interface.
