Mumbai, May 17: Actress Sonakshi Sinha’s upcoming film ‘System’ is set for release. Amidst her promotional activities, she shared her views on the purpose of cinema. Sinha emphasized that films are not solely meant to bring about social change. They are also created for entertainment.
The actress believes that the primary goal of films is entertainment, and it is not the filmmakers’ responsibility to impart moral lessons.
In an exclusive conversation, Sonakshi stated, “I disagree with the notion that films should only serve as a means to guide society. Films are made for entertainment as well. The education of right and wrong should come from our parents and schools, not from actors or filmmakers.”
She elaborated, “Today we might tell the story of a lawyer; tomorrow, we could depict a serial killer. This does not imply that people will start harming others. Moral values and principles are taught at home. It is not our job to teach them.”
The actress clarified that films are rated according to age, whether 12, 16, or 18 years. Audiences are capable of distinguishing between right and wrong.
Sonakshi mentioned, “Often, there is a significant debate about films being inappropriate and should not be shown. Excuse me, but a film is a story. Viewers should watch it for entertainment. After all, it is just a story.”
She also noted that art reflects society. Films are often based on real-life events or true stories. If a film like ‘System’ prompts audiences to think, that is a positive outcome, but it does not mean every film carries the responsibility of social reform.
Sonakshi Sinha’s film ‘System’ will be released on Prime Video on May 22. The film is produced by Pammi Baweja, Harman Baweja, and Smita Baliga. Directed by Ashwiny Iyer, the film also stars actress Jyotika alongside Sonakshi.
