New Delhi, April 25: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a comprehensive review of the preparations for the ‘Heat Wave Action Plan 2026’ on Saturday. She directed departments and officials to ensure that all measures for heat protection are visible on the ground.
During the review, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that the summer season has reached its peak. She instructed that hospitals must have adequate beds available, public awareness campaigns should be launched immediately, and ambulances must be equipped with complete heat wave treatment facilities. Additionally, a water bell system should be implemented in all schools, and clean drinking water must be accessible at hospitals, schools, construction sites, Atal Canteens, police stations, post offices, and DTC bus stands, along with ensuring the availability of ORS at all locations.
Moreover, tankers, water coolers, and water ATMs should operate without interruption. Proper arrangements for shade and water for animals and birds are also essential. All preparations should be completed on time, prioritizing public convenience.
Earlier on Friday, CM Gupta instructed all schools to submit their compliance reports to the Directorate of Education by May 2, as per the heat wave action plan issued by IMD. She also appealed to parents to ensure adherence to these guidelines.
In a video message, CM Gupta stated that all schools must present their compliance reports to the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education by May 2, under the heat wave action plan issued by IMD. “Every child is important to us,” she remarked.
To ensure the safety of children during extreme heat, the government has issued guidelines. Each school has been instructed to ring the water bell every 45 to 60 minutes to remind children to drink water. Furthermore, arrangements for clean and cool drinking water will be made in every school.
The Delhi CM announced that a nodal officer will be appointed for each school to ensure compliance with all guidelines. Schools have also been advised not to keep children outdoors or conduct any sports activities during this period.
