Udhampur, May 16: In response to the rising temperatures, special arrangements have been made at the Deer Rescue Park in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, to ensure the safety of the animals. The forest department is committed to minimizing the impact of the heat on deer and other wildlife, keeping them safe and healthy.
Wildlife Range Officer Mahesh Abrol stated that the park serves as a rescue center housing a significant number of deer. As temperatures rise, the need for animal care becomes increasingly critical. Various measures have been implemented to address this concern.
Abrol highlighted that the first priority is ensuring a sufficient water supply. Water sprinkling is conducted throughout the area to cool the environment and provide relief to the animals. He emphasized, “Life is not possible without water, making it the most essential facility.” Additionally, clean and cool water is regularly provided to the animals.
The health of the animals is closely monitored. A veterinarian visits the park weekly to check on all the animals. If any animal shows signs of distress, immediate treatment is administered. During the summer months, a special diet is provided, including fruits and nutritious items that help keep their bodies cool. They also receive glucose and other necessary supplements.
Abrol mentioned that special feed is sourced from Jammu and other locations, supplied by the forest department. This ensures that the animals receive a balanced and adequate diet to maintain their health.
Furthermore, staff members are present 24 hours a day at the rescue center. They continuously monitor the animals to quickly identify and address any issues. In case of emergencies, prompt medical care is arranged.
He recounted a recent incident where a deer fell ill. Immediate medication and veterinary assistance were provided, leading to a significant improvement in the animal’s condition.
