Kolkata, May 17: In the 60th match of IPL 2026, the Gujarat Titans (GT) faced a 29-run defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). GT’s assistant coach, Parthiv Patel, acknowledged that dropping catches proved costly for the team.
With this loss, the Gujarat Titans’ winning streak of five matches came to an end. During a press conference, Parthiv highlighted poor fielding as the primary reason for the defeat. He stated, “I believe that catching made a significant difference. When playing high-scoring matches against a strong batting lineup, you don’t get many chances. When you do, you must ensure you take those catches. I felt that was the biggest difference.”
GT missed three crucial catching opportunities against KKR. Mohammed Siraj dropped a catch of Finn Allen at long-on when he was on 33 runs. The explosive opener capitalized on this mistake, scoring 93 runs off just 35 balls, including 10 sixes. Cameron Green also received a lifeline at 23 runs when Arshad Khan dropped a catch, allowing the ball to roll over the boundary for four runs. Green finished with an unbeaten 52 runs off 28 balls. Ankit Raghuwanshi benefited from another dropped catch at 53 runs when Washington Sundar missed an easy opportunity, leading to Raghuwanshi scoring an impressive 82 not out.
Batting first, KKR posted a formidable total of 247 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in their 20 overs. Parthiv Patel praised Finn Allen’s outstanding performance, saying, “Allen played exceptionally well, no doubt about it. We felt it wasn’t an easy pitch. Against our strong pace attack, Allen’s batting was remarkable.” In pursuit of a target of 248 runs, the Gujarat Titans managed only 218 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs.
