Mumbai, May 16: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has announced an ambitious plan to consolidate nearly all offices and institutions related to the ministry into a single complex in Mumbai. He stated that this initiative will make administration more citizen and business-friendly.
Goyal emphasized that this move aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business.” He noted that the 1.4 billion citizens of India should experience convenience and ease in government dealings.
Currently, 20 offices of 12 different institutions associated with the ministry are scattered across various locations in Mumbai, occupying prime real estate and large office spaces. Under the new plan, these offices will be integrated into a centralized hub wherever feasible. However, some institutions will continue to operate from separate locations.
The minister highlighted that the centralized hub will feature modern audio-visual facilities, making it easier to connect with the 46 different entities under the ministry. Institutions without offices in Mumbai, such as the Spices Board, will also provide their services through this system.
This arrangement aims to eliminate the need for citizens and businesses to visit multiple offices. Staff stationed at the hub will promptly address the needs of the public. This will reduce administrative costs, enhance productivity, and improve overall service quality.
Goyal also mentioned that this model will contribute to environmental conservation. By consolidating offices in one location, energy savings will be realized, fuel consumption will decrease, and unnecessary travel for both citizens and officials will be minimized.
He further stated that India’s export promotion mission will also operate from these integrated offices. The government aims to achieve a target of $1 trillion in exports this year and $2 trillion by 2030.
