New Delhi, February 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate bilateral discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Swiss President Guy Parmelin during the ongoing AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on Thursday. The meetings focused on the future of agreements between India and Europe.

The Ministry of External Affairs provided insights into the discussions, emphasizing the topics highlighted, including AI. Following his meeting with Rutte, Modi stated, “Both leaders shared their views on utilizing AI for economic and social transformation. They reiterated their commitment to expediting the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The discussions also focused on strengthening India-Netherlands cooperation in technology and innovation while exploring new opportunities for economic partnership. Both leaders pledged to unite in the fight against terrorism.”

India and the Netherlands share robust bilateral relations based on common democratic values and diverse collaborations across various sectors. The two nations have established a strategic partnership in water management, which includes significant cooperation and knowledge sharing in flood management and clean water technology.

In addition, Prime Minister Modi engaged in serious discussions with President Parmelin regarding the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) and partnerships in AI innovation.

The Ministry of External Affairs also commented on this bilateral meeting, stating, “Discussions were held to strengthen economic cooperation between India and Switzerland, focusing on trade, investment, and technology. Notably, the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) and enhancing partnerships in AI innovation were key points. We hope that our relationship will promote technological collaboration, quality investments, and create job opportunities for our youth.”

It is noteworthy that the India-European FTA-TEPA agreement came into effect on October 1. This agreement provides Indian exporters, industries, and service providers access to the markets of EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland).
