Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Criticizes DMKs Liberal Stance as Hypocrisy

Chennai, May 13: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay has issued an official statement following the successful floor test in the assembly. In his statement, he expressed gratitude to the public and leaders while targeting the DMK. He labeled the DMK’s claim of not obstructing the TVK government as a ‘liberal’ hypocrisy.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Vijay stated, “Today, as a committed Chief Minister for public welfare, I presented a confidence motion for ‘People’s Government – Our Government.’ The motion was debated, with various parties expressing their support and opposition. Some chose to remain neutral, while others left the house. A vote was conducted to record the support and opposition to the confidence motion.”

According to the voting results, 144 legislators expressed confidence, while 22 opposed it. Five remained neutral, and 60 legislators did not vote. Following this, the Speaker announced that the people-supported Tamil Nadu government achieved a resounding victory in the confidence motion.

“We thank all assembly members who placed their trust in our people’s government and voted for us. Similarly, we extend our gratitude to all the movement leaders who supported us,” he added.

During the live broadcast of the assembly proceedings, he emphasized that nothing was hidden or suppressed, contrary to the common practice of disrupting broadcasts to prevent demonstrations in support of the ruling party or to hinder the opposition. “What the world witnessed in today’s live broadcast is solid proof of our transparency,” he stated.

Vijay further asserted that as true representatives of the people, it is our duty to provide clarifications to all Tamil Nadu residents and our relatives. He criticized the opposition leader for using the same old argument that we lacked the support of the majority of Tamil Nadu’s populace. “Tamilians must have smiled recalling the 2006 DMK government, which claimed to form a ‘majority government’ with 100% votes across 234 seats,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister also shared insights about the votes received by his party and the DMK during the elections. He noted that the TVK secured 34.92% of the votes, while the DMK won some seats thanks to its alliance partners. The DMK’s individual vote percentage was only 24.19%.

Vijay concluded by stating that it was their unwavering secular stance that garnered support from Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), and the Indian Union Muslim League for their government. “I fail to understand the rationale behind the DMK mocking this. We leave it to your judgment and discretion. The ongoing narrative across the country, which claims that the DMK’s ‘civilized’ facade has been exposed through its tactics to prevent the largest people-supported party, TVK, from forming a government, will also be decided by the people of the nation. Furthermore, their ‘liberal’ hypocrisy of not obstructing the TVK government is merely a tired old statement,” he stated.
