New Delhi, August 14 (Kiran News) — President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to the nation on the eve of the 79th Independence Day, said that the country faced the pain of terrorism this year but responded with unity and determination. She described ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a symbol of the Indian Army’s strategic capability and self-reliance.

The President condemned the killing of innocent civilians visiting Kashmir as a cowardly and inhuman act that deeply pained the nation. “India responded to this attack with iron resolve and a decisive approach. Operation Sindoor has shown that our armed forces are fully capable of facing any situation,” she said. Calling the operation a historic milestone in the fight against terrorism, she noted that the armed forces destroyed cross-border terrorist bases with technical skill and discipline.
President Murmu emphasised that national unity was the most significant factor in the country’s counter-terrorism response. She said this unity also shaped India’s foreign policy, as multi-party parliamentary delegations visiting various countries presented India’s position with one voice. She stressed that the world had seen India as non-aggressive but fully committed to defending its citizens without hesitation. Calling the operation a successful test of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ mission, she said it marked a new chapter in India’s defence history, achieved with indigenous defence equipment and technology.
Highlighting the importance of environmental protection, the President urged citizens to change their habits, approach, and relationship with nature to combat climate change. She said the aim should be to leave behind a planet where life can thrive naturally. She reflected on India’s democratic journey, socio-economic growth, technological progress, and the role of youth, women, and marginalised communities.
She noted that at the time of Independence, India was struggling with poverty, but in 78 years, it had made remarkable progress in all sectors. Last year, the economy grew by 6.5%, making India the fastest-growing major economy in the world. She praised farmers, workers, and entrepreneurs for their role in reducing poverty and regional inequalities through well-planned policies and good governance.
President Murmu cited major infrastructure achievements like the Bharatmala project, railway modernisation, and linking the Kashmir Valley to the railway network, which would boost trade and tourism. She spoke about urban development projects such as the AMRUT Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, and metro expansion, stressing that basic amenities are the right of every citizen.
In health, she said the Ayushman Bharat scheme had provided a safety net to over 55 crore people. She also highlighted India’s digital leadership, noting that over half of the world’s digital transactions take place in the country. She said India was advancing towards becoming a global AI hub by 2047 through the India-AI Mission.
The President identified youth, women, and marginalised sections as the three pillars of India’s growth. She lauded their increasing participation in national development, citing achievements in science, space, and sports. She hailed the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ as a historic step for women’s empowerment and urged people to adopt locally made products to boost domestic industries.
Calling for a united fight against corruption, she reiterated that there should be zero tolerance for it. She concluded by expressing confidence in a bright future for India during the ‘Amrit Kaal’, saying that collective effort would make India a developed nation. She conveyed Independence Day greetings to the armed forces, police, central armed forces, judiciary, civil services, the Indian diaspora, and all citizens, urging them to join the nation-building journey.
