Alaska, 15 August (Kiran News) : Russian President Putin and US President Trump met in Alaska for a three-hour discussion focused on ending the Ukraine war. After the meeting, both leaders attended a joint press conference that lasted only 12 minutes, during which they did not answer any questions from journalists.

During the press conference, Trump said he felt the meeting was very positive. He mentioned that both sides agreed on several points, but no deal was reached. He clarified that an agreement would only be made when it is final.

Putin stated that Russia’s security is his top priority. He suggested holding the next meeting in Moscow. After making their remarks, both leaders immediately left the stage.

Putin arrived in the US on Saturday after nearly 10 years and was welcomed with a B-2 bomber flyover. Upon his arrival on the red carpet, Trump applauded him. Putin then joined Trump in his car as they headed to the meeting.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “Now it depends on Zelensky to complete it. I think a meeting will be scheduled soon among the three of us: Zelensky, Putin, and myself.”

Trump did not specify what issues are preventing the agreement. He described his meeting with Putin as successful and gave it a score of 10 out of 10.

Trump Calls Meeting with Putin ‘Very Good’

Speaking to Fox News before departing Alaska, Trump said his talks with Putin went very well. He mentioned that his relationship with President Putin has always been good. Trump added that it is a positive thing when two major powers work together, especially when both are nuclear-armed. He noted, “We are number one in the world and they are number two.” Trump did not share more details about the meeting.

Former US Ambassador Says ‘Trump Got Zero’

After the Trump-Putin meeting, former US Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute told the BBC that Trump gained nothing from the conversation. Lute commented, “Putin’s international isolation has now ended. He appeared on a big stage with the US President, received a warm welcome, walked the red carpet, and got a ride in Trump’s car—all of this was in Putin’s favour.”

He added, “What did Trump get in return? Nothing. We achieved very little. We are not any closer to a peace agreement in Ukraine. In fact, we may now be even further away.”

Trump Did Not Speak to Journalists

While returning to Washington D.C. aboard Air Force One, Trump did not stop to speak to journalists, as he usually does during travel. He also did not answer any press questions during the joint press conference with Putin. Putin also did not take any questions.
