New Delhi, May 13: Consumers are set to face another blow from rising inflation. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), which owns the Amul brand, has announced an increase in milk prices. The new rates will come into effect across the country starting May 14, 2026.
According to an official statement from GCMMF, the price of Amul milk will rise by up to ₹2 per liter. This increase will apply to various products including Amul Fresh, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti, Amul Tea Special, and other major variants.
This marks the first price hike since May 2025. The company stated that the increase averages between 2.5% to 3.5%, which is lower than the general food inflation rate.
The federation explained that the cost of milk production has been steadily rising. Over the past year, there has been a significant increase in the prices of animal feed, milk packaging materials, and fuel. This has led to the decision to raise milk prices.
Amul noted that approximately 80% of the revenue from milk sales is directly distributed to milk producers and farmers. In the last year, member unions have raised the price paid to farmers for milk by about ₹30 per kilogram of fat, translating to an increase of around 3.7%.
The company emphasized that a substantial portion of the price hike will benefit farmers, encouraging them to boost milk production.
For Gujarat (including Ahmedabad, Saurashtra, and Kutch), the new Maximum Retail Prices (MRP) for key Amul milk packs will be as follows:
– Amul Fresh 500 ml pack will now be priced at ₹29 instead of ₹28, while the 1-liter pack will increase from ₹55 to ₹57.
– Amul Cow Milk 500 ml pack will rise from ₹29 to ₹30.
– Amul Shakti 500 ml pack will now cost ₹32 instead of ₹31.
– Amul Tea Special 1-liter pack will see a price increase from ₹63 to ₹66.
– Amul Gold 500 ml pack will now be available for ₹35 instead of ₹34.
– Amul Buffalo Milk 500 ml pack will increase from ₹37 to ₹39.
