Maruti Suzuki Sets Record with Delivery of 3 Million Vehicles via Indian Railways

New Delhi, May 13: Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, announced on Wednesday that it has achieved a significant milestone by delivering over 3 million vehicles through the Indian railway network. This accomplishment underscores the company’s commitment to green and sustainable logistics operations.

The company stated that it has consistently increased the share of rail transport in its total outbound logistics over the past decade. In the fiscal year 2014-15, rail-based transport accounted for only 5% of total vehicle dispatches, which has now risen to 26.5% in the fiscal year 2025-26.

Maruti Suzuki revealed that the journey of transporting 2 million to 3 million vehicles by rail was completed in just 21 months, marking the fastest increase of 1 million additional vehicles via rail in the company’s history.

Commenting on this achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi noted that it represents a crucial step in the company’s green logistics journey. He mentioned that since 2014, rail-based freight has increased nearly ninefold and now constitutes over a quarter of the company’s total vehicle transport.

Takeuchi also highlighted the company’s commitment to invest over ₹13,720 million in dedicated green logistics infrastructure. He praised the government’s PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, stating that it has established a robust framework for integrated and multimodal logistics, facilitating the adoption of rail-based freight transport by industries.

Discussing future plans, he mentioned that the company aims to increase the share of rail-based vehicle dispatch to 35% by the fiscal year 2030-31. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki plans to establish in-plant railway sidings at its upcoming Kharkhoda manufacturing facility. This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions, save fuel, and alleviate traffic pressure on roads.

Maruti Suzuki claims to be the first and only passenger vehicle manufacturer in India with railway siding facilities at two of its manufacturing plants (Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana). Both facilities have been developed under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

According to the company, the combined annual dispatch capacity of these two in-plant railway sidings is 750,000 vehicles. Currently, the company’s rail network operates under a hub-and-spoke logistics model, servicing over 600 cities across the country through 22 hubs.
