Udaipur, August 12 (Kiran News). Rajasthan Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Forest, Environment, and Climate Change, as well as Science and Technology, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, has emphasised the need to connect villagers with forests to maintain ecological balance. He said that if villagers are engaged with their nearby forests, their emotional attachment towards the environment will grow, leading to natural protection of the forests.

Mr. Sharma was addressing a departmental review meeting at the Zila Parishad auditorium during his visit to Udaipur on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain, Udaipur Rural MLA Phoolsingh Meena, District Collector Namit Mehta, social workers Gajpal Singh, Pushkar Teli, and Ravindra Shrimali. The Minister was welcomed by Chief Conservators of Forests Seduram Yadav and Sunil Chhidri. Deputy Conservators of Forests Mukesh Saini, Ajay Chittora, and Yadvendra Singh (Wildlife) gave presentations on departmental progress, including updates on budget announcements, CAMPA, RFBC, NABARD, and state-funded projects.
The Minister reviewed bamboo harvesting, wildlife census, incidents involving human presence in forest areas, and nursery plant production. He also assessed the activities of the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and progress on the proposed digital planetarium in Udaipur.
Harit Rajasthan Campaign Progress
Under the Mukhyamantri Vriksharopan Mahabhiyan – Harit Rajasthan, Udaipur has planted 38.65 lakh saplings against a target of 44 lakh, placing it third in the state. Mr. Sharma directed officials to expedite plantation to meet the target within 15 days and questioned underperforming departments. He also promoted the new facility on the Harit Rajasthan portal, allowing citizens to upload selfies with planted trees and receive digital certificates.
Monitoring and Accountability in Safari Projects
Regarding the Sajjangarh Lion Safari, where 300 metres of fencing collapsed in May, Mr. Sharma expressed displeasure over the delay in investigation and stressed the seriousness of the issue. He ordered a fair and speedy inquiry, fixing responsibility, and directed the District Collector to appoint an administrative officer to oversee the probe.
He also reviewed progress on the Amarkh Mahadev Leopard Safari, expressing dissatisfaction and urging faster work to fulfil budget announcements promptly.
Wildlife and Community Engagement
Mr. Sharma called for action plans to increase small animal populations in forests, quick resolution of pending compensation cases for wildlife-related incidents, and development of green zones on forest land similar to Gulab Bagh.
Transparency in Village Forest Committees
The Minister instructed complete transparency in forming Village Forest Development and Management Committees, ensuring involvement of local MPs and MLAs, avoiding repeated tenures, and registering all committees under the Societies Act with mandatory audits. He also directed eradication of Vilayati Babul on the model of Pali district and preparation of renovation proposals for departmental guest houses.
