Ranchi, May 13: The Jharkhand BJP has declared a statewide protest against the Hemant Soren government, focusing on farmers’ issues. Party president Aditya Sahu announced that BJP workers will hold one-day demonstrations at all block headquarters in Jharkhand from May 15 to May 20.
Sahu criticized the Hemant government as anti-farmer, claiming it has failed to fulfill pre-election promises. He highlighted that the JMM and Congress had pledged a minimum support price of ₹3,200 per quintal for farmers, free electricity for agricultural work, and affordable fertilizers and seeds, but have since neglected these commitments.
He raised concerns over fertilizer black marketing, alleging that urea is being sold at double the prescribed price, and even PDS salt is being subjected to black market activities. Sahu pointed out that the current government’s decision to terminate the ‘Chief Minister’s Agricultural Blessing Scheme’ initiated by the previous BJP administration and create obstacles in the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme reflects its anti-farmer mentality.
Additionally, he expressed deep concern over the recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms that have devastated crops for farmers. Sahu noted that hailstorms have completely destroyed watermelon, cucumber, and other vegetable crops in several districts, including Ranchi, leaving farmers in dire straits.
He urged the state government to conduct immediate surveys to assess the damage accurately and provide adequate compensation to affected farmers. Sahu emphasized that many farmers rely on loans or have mortgaged their jewelry for farming, and the hailstorm has crushed their hopes. He also called for immediate relief for the homes of the poor that have been damaged, to protect these families from further hardships before the monsoon arrives.
