Udaipur, August 4 – On the 16th day of the ongoing 27-day Gyanganag Mahotsav discourse series, spiritual leader Rashtrasant Acharya Pulak Sagar Maharaj addressed thousands of devotees at the Town Hall premises in Udaipur. The event is being held under the grandeur of the Chaturmas at the Mahavir Digambar Jain Temple, Sarvaritu Vilas.

Delivering his powerful sermon, Acharya Pulak Sagar said, “If you rob others, you will eventually be robbed; but if you give selflessly, it will return to you in abundance.” He added that every individual is born alone and departs alone from this world. “Though one may or may not bring anything at birth, they arrive with a body, and even that is left behind when life ends.”

Explaining the concept of society, the Acharya said that humans are born into a group of people — which we call society. “Animals and birds also live in communities and share joy. The size of your house does not define your value in society. A building made of bricks and stones is a house, but a well-organised group of people is a society,” he said.

He emphasised that love and respect must form the foundation of society and cited that the tradition of social structure dates back to Lord Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara in Jainism. Acharya Pulak Sagar highlighted the importance of self-awareness, stating, “You read newspapers and magazines every day, but take time to read yourself too. One who understands oneself is truly liberated, while one who doesn’t lives a meaningless life.”

He also elaborated on the concept of Tirthas (pilgrimage centres) as defined by Lord Mahavira, who created four eternal and conscious Tirthas: Muni, Aryika, Shravak, and Shravika. He described society itself as a Tirtha and stated that without these four pillars, even physical pilgrimage sites would have no caretakers.

Encouraging positivity, the Acharya urged listeners to celebrate others’ success instead of pulling them down, which he said would bring blessings into one’s own life. He also spoke about the purpose of different life stages: “Childhood is for acquiring knowledge, youth for earning wealth, and old age for accumulating virtue.”

He concluded with a reflection on aging: “Live consciously. Old age is an uninvited guest — you may try plastic surgery or make-up, but it will arrive. Instead of denying it, embrace it as the golden chapter where you get to live your life’s experiences.”
