Samsons Early Dismissal Marks Key Moment in GTs Victory Over CSK, Says Boucher

New Delhi, May 22: Former South African cricketer Mark Boucher believes that Sanju Samson’s dismissal on the very first ball was a pivotal moment in the match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). GT showcased an impressive performance, defeating CSK by 89 runs.

Samson was sent back to the pavilion by Mohammad Siraj without scoring. In an attempt to play a delivery that moved away, he offered an easy catch to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. Following this significant blow in the first over, CSK struggled throughout their innings, losing wickets at regular intervals. Chasing a target of 230 runs set by GT, CSK’s entire team collapsed for 140 runs in just 13.4 overs, ending their tournament journey.

Boucher noted that Samson was the only batsman who could have posed a serious challenge during the chase. He credited Siraj for executing his plans flawlessly. Speaking to JioHotstar, Boucher stated, “Sanju Samson was perhaps the only batsman who could have been a real challenge for Gujarat Titans in that chase, so getting him out on the very first ball was a huge moment in the match.”

“Mohammad Siraj completely executed his plan, especially on a red soil surface where he could pitch the ball up and make it swing. Siraj’s line and length were spot on, and Samson went for his shot immediately. That wicket dealt a significant blow to CSK’s hopes, as they needed something special to recover after losing Samson so early.”

Siraj and Kagiso Rabada delivered outstanding bowling performances, taking a combined total of six wickets. Rashid Khan also contributed by claiming three wickets, dismantling CSK’s batting order. Earlier, Shubman Gill (64) and Sai Sudharsan (84) built a solid foundation with a 125-run opening partnership, allowing Jos Buttler to finish with an unbeaten 57 runs off 27 balls, leading GT to a total of 229 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Boucher remarked, “Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan stand out because they consistently score runs and display a hunger in every match. While T20 batting is often associated with constant innovation and high-risk shots, both rely heavily on strong cricketing fundamentals and sound shot selection.”
