Lucknow, May 22: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, expressed her concerns on Friday regarding the ongoing power cuts in the state amidst extreme heat. She urged the government to take immediate and appropriate measures to address the situation.
Mayawati highlighted that in a populous state like Uttar Pradesh, the inadequate power supply and frequent outages during this severe heat are causing immense hardship for the poor, middle class, farmers, small traders, and millions of hardworking individuals. She noted that the public is increasingly voicing their frustration over these issues.
In a post on the social media platform X, Mayawati stated, “In a state with such a large population, the common complaints about reduced power supply and outages during this intense heat are making life extremely difficult for the poor, middle class, farmers, small traders, and countless hardworking people. This discontent is frequently discussed in the media.”
She further appealed to the government to consider the suffering and difficulties faced by the people regarding power supply and to take necessary actions immediately. Mayawati also suggested that efforts should be made to improve the electricity supply situation in the future through new power plants, which would be in the public interest.
The heatwave in Uttar Pradesh has shattered all records, with the Banda district in Bundelkhand being the hottest. A heatwave alert has been issued for three days across the state. The government is releasing various guidelines, and the health department is conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public. People are advised to limit their exposure to the sun when necessary. However, the ongoing power cuts amidst the intense heat are causing significant distress, with rising electricity consumption leading to increased demand. Frustrated citizens have staged protests in several areas due to the power outages.
