Madhya Pradesh Government Recommends CBI Investigation in Twisha Sharma Case

Bhopal, May 22: The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended that the investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). An official statement released on Friday by the state’s Home Department confirmed that a message has been sent to the central government requesting the CBI’s involvement in the case.

This case pertains to the death of Twisha Sharma, which occurred on May 12 in the Bag Mugaliya Extension area of Bhopal. According to the government statement, a criminal case has already been registered at the Katara Hills police station under crime number 133/2026.

The First Information Report (FIR) includes charges under sections 80(2), 85, and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023, as well as sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

The Madhya Pradesh government stated, “A proposal has been made to hand over the investigation of the dowry-related death that occurred on May 12 in the Bag Mugaliya Extension area of Bhopal to the CBI.”

The state government clarified that it has granted consent under section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. This allows members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment, under which the CBI operates, to exercise their powers and jurisdiction throughout the state of Madhya Pradesh for the purpose of this investigation.

The statement further mentioned, “The Madhya Pradesh government has provided its consent for the extension of the powers and jurisdiction of the members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment across the state for this investigation.”

The notification also indicated that consent has been granted for the investigation of the alleged crime, including any incitement and criminal conspiracy related to this case.

This development follows a meeting between Twisha’s family and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, where they requested a fair investigation by the CBI.

Twisha Sharma’s death has sparked widespread discussion and allegations of dowry harassment, leading to calls for an independent inquiry from various quarters.

The decision to transfer the investigation to the CBI is seen as a significant step by the state government to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.

Once formal procedures are completed and relevant documents are received from the Madhya Pradesh police, the CBI is expected to formally take charge of the case.
