Mumbai, May 22: Renowned filmmaker Ashok Pandit has expressed outrage over a recent stone-pelting incident that occurred during an operation to remove illegal encroachments on railway land in the impoverished area of Bandra East, Mumbai. The incident took place on Friday, prompting Pandit to voice his concerns on social media.
In a video shared on Instagram, the public can be seen throwing stones at administration and security forces. Pandit has called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take decisive action regarding the situation.
He stated, “During the removal of illegal constructions on railway land in the poor Nagar area of Bandra, a stone-pelting incident was reported. Watching this video reminds me of the riots in Kashmir and Delhi, where security forces were also targeted. Here, security personnel and government officials diligently performing their duties were similarly attacked.”
Pandit accused political collusion behind the incident, saying, “Illegal settlements have flourished in this area due to political patronage over the years. The question now is, what action will be taken against the leaders and officials who have promoted these illegal encroachments for so long? Until strict measures are enforced against such individuals, halting illegal encroachments and constructions will be challenging.”
He added, “I thank the Chief Minister, security forces, railway officials, and local administration for their effective actions. Such operations should continue in other areas of Mumbai without discrimination. What is illegal according to the law remains illegal.”
