Demolition Work Near Bandra Station in Mumbai Nears Completion

Mumbai, May 22: The demolition of an illegal settlement near Bandra East Station has almost been completed after a court order. This marks the fourth consecutive day of the operation, during which debris is now being cleared. A significant police presence was deployed to maintain order throughout the process.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Western Railway, informed a news agency that the demolition operation has been ongoing since May 19 without any interruptions. So far, 100% of the illegal structures have been dismantled.

According to CPRO Abhishek, as per the High Court‘s directive, while 100 structures are not being completely demolished, the upper portions above the first floor are being removed. All safety standards are being adhered to as the higher levels are taken down. The remaining work is expected to be completed by the evening or by Saturday.

To secure the area, barricading and fencing will be fully implemented after Thursday evening. Since the first day of the operation, around 1,000 to 1,200 personnel have been deployed, primarily from the city police, along with officers from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP).

This area covers approximately 300 square meters. Once cleared, a traffic management plan will be established to ensure that passengers can access Bandra Terminus and local services without disruption.

Additionally, Mumbai police have arrested another suspect in connection with stone-pelting incidents in the impoverished Nagar area of Bandra. To date, a total of 19 individuals have been apprehended, and the investigation is progressing rapidly, with more arrests anticipated.
