Ranchi, May 22: Manoj Kumar Sinha, also known as MK Sinha, the former principal of a prestigious private school in Ranchi, has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexual harassment against a nursing staff member. The ruling was delivered by Additional District Judge Arvind Kumar Number-2 on Friday, who also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convicted principal.
The case dates back to May 2022 when the victim filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Argoda police station in Ranchi. In her complaint, she made serious allegations against Sinha, stating that he frequently summoned her to his office under the pretext of checking her blood pressure. During these visits, he allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior and exerted mental and administrative pressure to establish a physical relationship.
Following the filing of the case, Sinha went into hiding, but police apprehended him four days later in the Telco area of Jamshedpur with the help of the technical cell. The high-profile case underwent a lengthy legal process. On November 21, 2022, Sinha was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court, but the victim challenged this decision.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the High Court revoked Sinha’s bail on June 20, 2025. The former principal appealed to the Supreme Court against this stringent ruling, but the apex court dismissed his petition, upholding the High Court’s order. The Supreme Court instructed him to surrender to the lower court within a week, after which he remained in judicial custody facing trial.
