Sonam Bajwa Appeals to Punjab CM on Stray Dog Issue

Chandigarh, May 22: Actress Sonam Bajwa has made a heartfelt appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regarding the issue of stray dogs. In a social media post, Bajwa emphasized that the Supreme Court has not ordered the mass removal of stray dogs. She urged CM Mann to reconsider the situation and adopt a compassionate approach towards these voiceless animals.

Bajwa wrote on Instagram, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Supreme Court did not order the removal of stray dogs in bulk. The court mentioned regular removal from sensitive public areas, which includes sterilization, vaccination, and sheltering, not complete eradication from the streets.”

Questioning the current state of affairs, she asked, “Where are the shelters? Where is the infrastructure?” She insisted that the system should not become a death sentence for voiceless animals. While acknowledging the importance of public safety and human life, Bajwa stressed that compassion and responsibility are equally crucial.

She earnestly requested the Chief Minister, “Please reconsider this approach and choose a solution that embodies compassion and humanity.”

Bajwa suggested that CM Mann convene NGOs working for animal welfare, veterinarians, local officials, and public safety experts to devise a practical, humane, and sensitive solution.

She further stated, “How we treat the voiceless ultimately reflects who we are as a society.”

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on the stray dog issue on Tuesday, upholding its decision to remove stray dogs from public spaces. The court clearly stated that the problem is worsening due to the ineffective implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. The court expressed concern over the rising incidents of dog bites, which have become a serious issue. It directed state governments to strictly enforce the ABC program and take concrete steps to control the stray dog population.
