Saharanpur, May 22: An FIR has been registered against Samajwadi Party MP Ikra Hasan in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This case is linked to a protest that occurred on May 19 outside the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) office.
The FIR accuses Hasan and her supporters of blocking roads, creating disturbances, and obstructing government work during a demonstration related to the Sonu Kashyap murder case.
In addition to Ikra Hasan, seven named individuals and 25 unidentified persons have been charged under various sections of the law. The FIR was filed based on a complaint from the in-charge of the Civil Lines police station at the Sadar Bazaar police station.
According to police officials, Hasan and her supporters blocked the main road outside the DIG office, causing significant traffic disruptions and public inconvenience. The complaint further alleges that the protest violated prohibitory orders and hindered government operations.
Following a review of the incident and evidence collection, legal action was initiated. Authorities are also examining viral videos and CCTV footage to identify the unnamed accused mentioned in the FIR. They indicated that further legal actions may follow as the investigation progresses.
This incident has reignited political tensions in the district, with Samajwadi Party workers expressing anger over the FIR filed against the MP and her supporters.
The controversy is connected to the murder of Monu Kashyap, a resident of Dashle village in Shamli district, who was killed on April 21. Reports indicate that the victim’s family has been demanding justice for weeks and has approached various officials regarding the case.
On May 19, Ikra Hasan, along with family members of the victim and her supporters, arrived at the DIG office in Saharanpur to pressure authorities for action in the murder case. She staged a protest outside the DIG office to express solidarity with the victim’s family and demand justice.
After a meeting at the DIG office yielded no immediate results, Hasan was taken into custody by a female police inspector. She later claimed that she was held for about ten minutes at the women’s police station. During the protest, five individuals were charged under public disorder laws and sent to jail. Those detained included former state minister Manguram Kashyap, along with Anuj, Ajay, Shishpal, and Tejpal.
Hasan accused the police of quietly sending these five individuals to jail without providing details of any FIR against them. Following the detention of party workers, she staged another protest outside the Sadar Bazaar police station, demanding their immediate release.
Reports indicate that this protest lasted from around 4 PM to 9:30 PM. During the demonstration, there was a heated exchange between Hasan and police officials. Eyewitnesses reported that she challenged the officers, saying, “Shoot me! Hang me! What more can you do?”
The five individuals detained under Section 151 were released the following day.
During the protest, Ikra Hasan stated that when ordinary citizens approach officials with complaints, their voices go unheard. She declared that only one option remains: either send us to jail or release our party workers. “We are fully prepared to go to jail,” she asserted.
That same night, City Magistrate Kuldeep Singh visited the police station and assured the protesters that all arrested individuals, including Manguram Kashyap, would be released by Wednesday morning. Following this assurance, Hasan ended the protest.
After copies of the FIR became public, political activities surged again, reigniting outrage among Samajwadi Party supporters in the district. Following the protest in Saharanpur, the MP traveled to Lucknow that night to meet with a victim of ration-related grievances and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, who subsequently provided financial assistance of 200,000 rupees.
