Udaipur, April 8: The newly constructed hostel for tribal boys in Obari has become a safety concern for its 50 residents. Built at a cost of ₹66.15 lakh in 2024, the building, which includes four rooms and two toilets, has developed deep cracks in its walls and pillars after just one rainfall. This alarming situation follows the virtual inauguration of the facility by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Tribal Minister Babulal Kharadi on November 18, 2025.
Allegations of Poor Construction and Materials
The construction was overseen by the Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board and awarded to Shri Vinayak Construction. Local residents allege that substandard materials were used, possibly due to collusion between officials and the contractor, leading to the building’s deteriorating condition. The structure has not even withstood its first monsoon, raising serious concerns about its integrity.
Questions Raised on the Role of Local Representatives
The inauguration plaque bears the names of MP Rajkumar Rot and MLA Shankarlal Decha, but the building’s condition has cast doubt on their oversight and accountability. Residents are questioning whether the inauguration was merely a formality without proper inspection.
Officials Defend and Promise Investigation
M. Kumar Salvi, the Executive Engineer of the Agricultural Marketing Board, acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and mentioned that an investigation will be conducted. Meanwhile, Dr. Satyaprakash Kachhwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of the Tribal Department, has assured immediate corrective measures. The hostel warden has already expressed concerns for the children’s safety and indicated plans to file a complaint.
