Udaipur, May 3: Anger erupted among family members and villagers following the suspicious death of an 18-year-old woman at the Mandwa PHC in Udaipur district. On Saturday, a large crowd gathered outside the Kotda CHC demanding compensation and government jobs. Multiple rounds of discussions took place between the administration and the family, but no agreement was reached by late evening.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Aarti Kumari was brought to the PHC with complaints of cough and cold. Allegations have surfaced that a General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) nurse administered an injection without a doctor’s presence, leading to her death just minutes later. Her father accused the staff of severe negligence, stating that no examination or prescription was provided.
Family Refuses Autopsy, Demands Assurance
The body of the deceased is currently held in the mortuary at Kotda CHC. The family has made it clear that they will not allow an autopsy until they receive written assurance of adequate compensation and a government job for a family member. Local officials, including the Tehsildar, BMO, and police officers, are on-site attempting to mediate. Villagers have also raised concerns about the absence of a doctor at the PHC, arguing that the incident could have been avoided if one had been present. Aarti was a student at STC and aspired to become a teacher. Tensions remain high in the area, with police deployed at the hospital premises.
