Review of Food Grain Schemes in Muzaffarpur: District Magistrate Expresses Discontent Over Negligence

Muzaffarpur, April 28: A significant meeting of the District Task Force for rice procurement was held on Monday at the Collectorate auditorium, chaired by District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen. The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of rice, wheat, and pulse procurement, as well as the midday meal scheme and the public distribution system.

During the meeting, officials were instructed to ensure the timely, transparent, and effective implementation of all food grain schemes.

The review revealed that the district’s rice procurement performance was highly satisfactory. Against a target of 89,547 metric tons, 89,514.38 metric tons of rice had been purchased from 13,670 farmers, achieving 99.96% of the total goal. Notably, all farmers received 100% payment.

The District Magistrate directed an acceleration in the supply of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) and warned cooperative extension officers from Muroul, Bochahan, Gaighat, Katra, and Sahebganj for their negligence. He also instructed the District Cooperative Officer to take strict action against PACS and trade associations.

In the review of wheat procurement, it was noted that only 594 metric tons had been purchased from 129 farmers against a revised target of 6,303 metric tons. The District Magistrate emphasized increasing purchases from small and marginal farmers at the panchayat level.

Instructions were also given to expedite the registration and selection of procurement centers for pulses and maize.

Regarding the midday meal scheme, the District Magistrate made it clear that no school should halt the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) program. He warned that delays in food distribution could adversely affect children’s nutrition.

The District Magistrate adopted a strict stance on the public distribution system, directing officials to ensure timely distribution of rations and kerosene. He urged for the completion of April’s distribution at 100% and to expedite May’s distribution.

He instructed that the process of canceling ration cards for ineligible beneficiaries should be completed according to regulations, ensuring that no eligible person is left without assistance.

Additionally, he ordered the suspension of salaries for three block supply officers who performed poorly in issuing ration cards.

In conclusion, the District Magistrate emphasized that all food-related schemes are directly linked to the public, especially the poor and children, and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.
