New Delhi, May 21: Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, met with Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss ongoing rail projects in Telangana.
Reddy shared images from the meeting on the social media platform ‘X’. He stated that they reviewed the progress of major rail projects in Telangana, which include new railway lines, electrification efforts, station redevelopment, and high-speed rail corridor initiatives.
The minister further mentioned that they also discussed enhancing the MMTS services around Hyderabad, focusing on improving train regularity and passenger amenities. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw responded positively, assuring that necessary steps would be taken to enhance these services.
Reddy emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, the central government is fully committed to strengthening rail infrastructure and public transport connectivity across Telangana.
Previously, Indian Railways approved the Arakkonam-Chengalpattu doubling project, costing ₹993 crores, as announced by the Ministry of Railways on Tuesday. This segment is part of the crucial Chennai suburban circular rail network, connecting Chennai Beach, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, and Arakkonam. It reinforces the commitment to safe, fast, and efficient rail transport across the country.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that the Arakkonam-Chengalpattu doubling project would facilitate smoother passenger movement, reduce congestion, and promote the transport of cement, automobiles, and food grains. He added that this project would strengthen both passenger and freight transport along the corridor, benefiting the movement of key commodities like cement, automobiles, grains, iron, and steel.
