Madhya Pradesh Establishes State Merchant Welfare Board

Bhopal, May 21: The State Merchant Welfare Board has been established in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will serve as the board’s president. This initiative aims to fulfill the objectives of the National Merchant Welfare Board set up by the Government of India. The board is expected to create a better environment for international trade and boost exports from the state, facilitated by the Department of Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion.

The committee will include the Minister of Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, along with a maximum of 10 members appointed by the Chief Minister.

Additionally, the board will comprise the Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Secretary of Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Commercial Tax, Finance, Farmer Welfare and Agricultural Development, Public Health and Medical Education, Public Works, Mineral Resources, Energy, New and Renewable Energy, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Science and Technology, Aviation, Cottage and Village Industries, Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment, Horticulture and Food Processing, Tourism Department, and the CEO of the State Policy Commission. Regional heads from the Reserve Bank of India, National Highways Authority of India, senior managers from the Indian Container Corporation, NABARD, ECGC, APEDA, and the Commissioner of FSSAI will also be official members.

The CEO of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis, and the Director of RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration and Management will serve as ex-officio members. State heads from CII, FICCI, FIO, DICCI, Laghu Udyog Bharati, and other state-level trade committees will also be appointed as ex-officio members from top chambers.

The Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation in Bhopal has been designated as the member-secretary. It has been indicated that amendments to the board can be made as necessary with the president’s approval. The formation of district-level committees (DLC) and the determination of their operational areas will be proposed by the member-secretary and approved in coordination. The board will convene four times a year, once every three months.
