The accident occurred on Thursday near the Sanatorium on the Bhawali bypass road when a group of people traveling in a car was en route to a hotel. The vehicle lost control and plunged into a deep gorge. The incident was so severe that four members of the same family and the car’s driver died at the scene.
Reports indicate that the family had come to Nainital and other locations for sightseeing.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police, SDRF, and SSB teams launched a rescue operation, retrieving the bodies from the gorge and sending them to Bhawali Hospital.
According to senior officials, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and they will be handed over to the families after all formalities are completed.
Nainital CO Ravikant Semwal informed the media that, at first glance, this appears to be a case of negligent driving. However, further investigation will clarify all details.
He also mentioned that the car is registered in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The identity of the driver has not yet been established, but the identities of the passengers have been confirmed, and further investigations are ongoing.
