Mastermind of Pulwama Attack, Hamza Burhan, Killed in PoK

New Delhi, May 21: Hamza Burhan, the mastermind behind the Pulwama attack, has been killed by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK). The incident occurred in Muzaffarabad, where he was shot multiple times. The terrorist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

In 2022, the Indian government designated him as a terrorist, stating, “Arjumand Gulzar Dar, also known as Hamza Burhan or Doctor, aged 23, hails from Khartapora, Ratnipora, Pulwama, and is an associate member of the Al-Badr terrorist organization, banned under UAPA.”

Hamza, who was also referred to as “Doctor,” was born in the Ratnipora area of Pulwama. He traveled to Pakistan in 2017, claiming he was going for higher education, but later joined the Al-Badr terrorist group and quickly rose to the rank of commander.

After joining Al-Badr, he returned to Kashmir, where he was accused of radicalizing local youth and recruiting them into terrorist organizations. His network was primarily active in South Kashmir.

During his time in Kashmir, he expanded his network from Pulwama to Shopian. His death is seen as a significant blow to the Pakistan-based terrorist network. He was one of the key figures working for active Pakistan-based terrorist organizations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pulwama attack is one of India’s deadliest assaults. On February 14, 2019, a convoy of CRPF personnel was targeted on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. A suicide bomber crashed a vehicle loaded with explosives into a bus, killing 40 soldiers.

The attack was carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammed, and the attacker was identified as Adil Ahmed Dar. Following this incident, the Indian Air Force retaliated by striking a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in Balakot.

Reports indicate that in recent years, several terrorists in Pakistan have been targeted by unknown assailants. However, the Pakistan government has not issued any official statements regarding these incidents and has remained silent on investigations.

There has been a noticeable increase in such incidents over the past two years. Targeting top terrorists and leaders has made it difficult for organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed to regroup.

Since Operation Sindoor, both of these terrorist groups have suffered significant losses. They are struggling to execute their plans, and such killings have severely impacted their morale, leading to a decrease in recruitment.
