Kolkata, May 21: Humayun Kabir, the president of the Ajeeyup party, has voiced his opposition to the recent mandate requiring the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ in madrasas across West Bengal. In an interview with a news agency, Kabir emphasized that the Constitution allows everyone to practice their own religion. He stated that if the government imposes Hindu cultural practices on Muslims, it should not be accepted. He clarified that no madrasa stands against anyone and that the Quran is taught within these institutions.
Kabir asserted that protecting the holy Quran is a fundamental right of every Muslim. He plans to mobilize the Muslim community to resist the government’s decision. He reminded the Chief Minister, who has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution, that he is the Chief Minister for all citizens. Kabir pointed out that Muslims do not worship idols; they believe in the Quran. He recalled that when he proposed building a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, discussions about constructing a Ram temple arose simultaneously in Baharampur.
He further stated that he has not taken any action against others. However, he criticized the West Bengal police for warning individuals who buy cows for sacrifice. Kabir urged Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to prevent such actions, advocating for a more humane approach. He emphasized the need for adherence to the Constitution, urging the government to follow suit.
Kabir declared that he would not back down if his community faces oppression. He plans to take to the streets with fellow Muslims to protest against this injustice and will raise his voice against the Chief Minister.
It is noteworthy that the West Bengal government has made it mandatory for all madrasas to sing ‘Vande Mataram.’ This order was issued on May 19 and applies immediately to government model madrasas, government-aided, and unaided madrasas. Following the new directive, singing ‘Vande Mataram’ will now be compulsory during the morning assembly before classes begin.
