Ayodhya, May 21: Iqbal Ansari, a former plaintiff in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case, has expressed support for the statement made by Maulana Arshad Madani, president of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, advocating for the cow to be declared the national animal of India. Ansari emphasized that the sacrifice of cows is prohibited by Allah and the Prophet.
In a conversation with a news agency, Ansari stated, “This issue is connected to our country and its laws. We respect cows, and the entire nation honors them.” He highlighted that in Hinduism, the cow is revered as ‘Gau Mata’ (Mother Cow) and is treated as a mother figure. “This is a positive sentiment, and everyone should respect it. If our Hindu neighbors refer to the cow as ‘Gau Mata,’ it is our duty to do the same. There are no written rules regarding cow sacrifice, and there shouldn’t be any, as Allah and the Prophet have forbidden it. The milk of cows is beneficial, and ghee is medicinal. We urge everyone to honor cows,” he added.
Ansari also appealed that during Bakrid, animals that are prohibited should not be sacrificed. He stressed the need for arrangements to provide fodder and water for cows during the hot season. “We demand that the government declare the cow as the national animal,” he said.
In a related discussion, Arya saint Varun Das Maharaj welcomed this initiative, stating that it is a commendable step. He urged Muslims in India to support this cause actively. “Not a single drop of cow’s blood should be shed on Indian soil,” he asserted.
He recalled the events of 1857 when Mangal Pandey discovered that the cartridges used in rifles were greased with cow and pig fat, which sparked a wave of revolution. “The cow plays a significant role; it is considered another form of the Earth itself. According to our religious texts, when the Earth is distressed, it takes the form of a cow. The cow is not just the mother of Hindus but is regarded as the mother of the world,” he concluded.
