Ahmedabad, May 21: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to face the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 66th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium this Thursday. CSK’s head coach, Stephen Fleming, has expressed confidence that his team will deliver their best performance against GT’s formidable bowling attack.
Currently, CSK sits in seventh place on the points table, having won 6 out of 13 matches. They aim to secure a significant victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team can reach a maximum of 14 points, after which they will depend on the results of other teams.
Ahead of this crucial match against GT, Fleming emphasized the team’s clear strategy for performing well at home. CSK had a rocky start, losing their first three matches, but they have made a strong comeback. Fleming praised the team’s resilience but acknowledged that poor performances in some games have hindered their chances.
In a video shared on the social media platform X, Fleming stated, “This is our last chance. We need to give it our all. We are clear on what we need to do to stay in the tournament. It won’t be easy. They (GT) are a very good team at home, but remaining in the race and facing a great challenge is a positive aspect.”
He added, “Some of our matches have been very close, and the outcomes were disappointing for us. However, winning this match could keep us in the tournament. Perhaps early in the tournament, people didn’t notice, but we have solid evidence of our efforts behind the scenes. We’ve given opportunities to some good players, including young talents. Therefore, defeating GT and finishing the tournament with a win while keeping our playoff hopes alive would be a fantastic outcome.”
Fleming also mentioned that injuries to key players during the tournament have posed significant challenges for the team throughout the season.
He remarked, “Injuries to players at crucial moments disrupted the team’s balance. We had to make some adjustments to our strategy at various critical points.”
According to Fleming, the overs bowled by GT’s fast bowlers, Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, will be crucial. The way CSK’s batsmen handle them could determine the match’s outcome.
He noted, “They come hard with their tall and fast bowlers. The conditions also favor them. Therefore, facing them will be challenging for our top order. Rabada is in fantastic form, and Siraj is also performing well. If we can overcome this challenge and build some solid partnerships, we can win the match. Additionally, we need to maintain a positive mindset throughout the game. So, it’s a mixed strategy: staying positive against excellent fast bowling, taking some risks, and hoping everything goes our way.”
