Mumbai, May 21: The demolition campaign in the impoverished area of Bandra East, known as Gorib Nagar, commenced on May 19, according to Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek. He stated that meticulous planning preceded the operation.
A total of 1,200 personnel were deployed, including 500 city police officers, 250 Railway Protection Force (RPF) members, and 200 Government Railway Police (GRP) officials. By the end of the previous day, approximately 60% of the work had been completed, with around 85% of the demolition accomplished by today.
Vineet Abhishek emphasized the sensitivity of the operation, noting the human aspect involved. “We are exercising utmost caution. If anyone faces difficulties, we are making efforts to assist them,” he said.
During the operation, over 2,000 bottles of water were distributed throughout the day, and meals were provided in the evening. “Our goal is to handle this sensitive matter appropriately while adhering to the High Court’s directives,” he added.
Abhishek mentioned that the High Court’s order is stringent, mandating the demolition of all illegal structures except for 100 identified ones. He also reported that a brief incident that occurred yesterday was managed effectively.
